The Business of Communities

Are You Investment Ready?
This is the topic of a presentation I gave to a number of communities, and from the feedback I received, it was needed and stimulated the right thinking.
The presentation introduced 7 common location considerations that businesses looking at possible new locations use in their evaluation.
1. Land availability and service capacity/status.
2. Land costs.
3. Location advantages (Access to transportation and markets).
4. Infrastructure and Utilities (What are your limitations?).
5. Labour pool.
6. Quality of Life
For staff who may need to relocate.
7. Incentives
While my presentation introduced these important factors, it went beyond location fundamentals and asked attendees to spend time considering their area’s competitive advantage and 4 strategies to develop their labour pool.
1. Retention and Student/Industry Engagement.
2. In-migration.
3. Immigration.
4. Senior/Retired Population Integration.
